Sam Johnson works for Duke Energy as a Project Manager. He serves on the company’s veteran employee resource group to address veterans issues and veteran recruitment. In 2009, he co-founded Keystone Warriors, an Eastern Pennsylvania non-profit organization that seeks to honor and empower injured service members who were wounded on or after 9/11 with connections to the State of Pennsylvania. He served as director with Keystone Warriors until 2012, and now serves as an advisor to the organization. In addition to the NC Heroes Fund and Keystone Warriors, Sam serves as an officer for Carolina Marines, a Charlotte based non-profit that is dedicated to supporting Marines and their families.
Sam was born in Knoxville, TN and earned his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Virginia Military Institute. He commissioned into the Marine Corps in 2005 and was trained as an Artillery Officer. He has served in a myriad of different roles within the artillery community to include Battery Command and Inspector-Instructor duty to include combat and operational experience in Iraq, Kuwait, and Africa. In 2013 he received his Master’s degree in Leadership Studies from Marshall University. He is currently serving in the Marine Corps Reserves as the Operations Officer for 3d Battalion, 14th Marines based in Bristol, PA.
