Heroes Fund awarded a total $24,247 to 23 servicemen/women and their families in 2009.

In our second full year of operation, 2009 was a year of growth for the North Carolina Heroes Fund.  This year we welcomed Former North Carolina Governors Jim Hunt and Jim Martin as well as Congressman Walter Jones to our advisory board.  We also welcomed several new board members; Van Krebs, Tariq Scott Bokhari and Herman Stone, they all bring with them a passion for carrying out the Fund’s mission. 

We launched two inaugural events, the NC Heroes Gala, a black tie event, and a key note address by Congressman Bob Etheridge.  The Gala was a smashing success and we could not of done it with out the support of our many corporate sponsors, thank you all for your continued support!  The Tailgate for Troops, in conjunction with the Carolina Panthers football game was a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.  Many retired and active duty personnel came out to help raise funds and awareness for the NC Heroes Fund.  All of the activities of this year, help set the stage for greater events in 2010.

More importantly, we doubled the amount of grants awarded directly to our state’s servicemen and women!

As we head into the final days of the year, we reflect on the many families that have fathers, mothers, sons or daughters currently deployed and serving our country in harms way, please know that we keep them in our thoughts and prayers.  With the deployment of many more of North Carolina’s service men and women, the need for assistance continues to grow.  Please consider a tax deductible, year end gift to continue the funds mission!
